Cousins' Week 2019
(Dave and Linda, Jen, Chris, Gregg until 5/12/19, Wayne, Barbara, Wendy 5/12/19)

To start, Jen donated her used Frigidaire refrig/freezer that was removed from her remodeled kitchen.  It's larger, quieter, more functional, and more attractive than the old one.  The ice and water system is inoperative and could not be fixed by the manufacturer due to a manufacturing defect, but our existing refrigerator/freezer did not have a functioning ice maker either.  Installation included removing cabinets, painting behind the area, filling floor defect and installing two vinyl runners to allow ease of rolling the refrigerator in and out of its confined space.  Moving both refrigerators was a big chore, as the doors and hinges had to be removed to barely fit them through doors at both locations.  The old one went to the dump.

Vinyl runners to level the base and facilitate access.
Other projects included remodelling of the outdoor shower with raising of the paving tiles to facilitate drainage, repairing the interior of the fireplace hearth, replacing latches on the garage doors, replacing screens in Mary's room and the kitchen to garage door, and other minor tasks.

No photos available, but Wayne, Wendy and Barbara spent Sunday in ambitiously cleaning cabinets, kitchenware,  mattress covers, bed covers, etc.

We're ready for our first guests!
You've got to love 6th generation Porter family members joining the work week.  This is Phoebe, now seven years old.
This is heavy duty vinyl pet screen instead of the traditional aluminum screen.  It is much more durable and should hold up better for our purposes. (Click here to see the difference.)
The floor was extremely out of level and uneven in that area:
FOOTNOTE:

Unfortunately, the deteriorating and collapsing seawall remains a huge concern that must be addressed.  In addition to the considerable expense of engineering and contracting, it is likely that the deck would need to be removed as part of that project.  If so, that will be an important future cousins' week project that will require a lot of manpower (and womanpower) to complete.

The photo below shows the problem.  We cannot control the erosion.  We can only respond to it.  We have lost a lot of  beach sand, the wall is leaning, and it will eventually collapse unless aggressive measures are taken to prevent that.
House closed October 10th (Dave and Linda).  Major trimming of hedges and removal of clippings.
