Early Cape Memories Indelibly Etched
Kitchen at Monument Beach..... screen door slamming, kids in and out, out and in with sandy feet and sand all over, intoxicating scent of Rosa Regusa by the back steps, south, south west wind blowing through the house, wind chimes, afternoon naps. Ayie reading to me---Haliburton's Seven Wonders of the World in now, Mary's room.
Running across the lawns to see Mamie & Ga---croquet, magic tricks, the rose covered arbor seat on Maryland Ave at the Leach house, the smell of bayberries, pennies on the track, Gouch's penny candy, rocks underfoot, the sleeping porch, wild blueberries, the rail road bridge at night, cousins, the beach, lobster pits and feasts.
Any combination of the sisters Suki, Jane, Mary, Louise in matching denim shorts making us lunch....peanut butter and jelly or bologna sandwiches and potato chips, sometimes cookies. Watching the sunset from the dining room in our pajamas, thunderstorms, hurricanes, sun. . . hugs, joy and laughter always.
